After our trip to Great Wolf Lodge and sickness upon more sickness, I was lacking my usual motivation for the Easter season. But I'm going to try to not feel guilt for what we didn't do, and instead remember the joy we experienced this year.
On Palm Sunday we joined a family Zoom where Uncle Ty taught us all about Jesus's Triumphal entry and all the symbolism there was on that day.
The kids reminded me for weeks about decorating eggs so when the day finally came they were really excited. And I only lost my cool once, so we're going to call it a win.
I had a bunch of shaving cream I wanted to get rid of so we tried out a new technique. Only problem was that the shaving cream smelled like an old man, which then made the eggs smell like an old man...eggs on toast aren't nearly as good when they smell like Old Spice.
Tanner did a good job of disappearing until I had calmed down...smart man
Tanner started some seedlings and I can't think of a better way to celebrate Easter than helping facilitate new life and new beginnings. Here's hoping we don't kill them...
On Monday, we learned about Jesus cleansing the temple and then talked about how we can clean our minds of unkind thoughts. And then we did my most favorite activity, cleaning the house. Because we want our homes to be like a temple.
Even though I was feeling pretty miserable the Thursday before Easter, I worked up the motivation to do our passover meal. Our Naan bread technically wasn't unleavened, and our sirloin steak didn't have a bone in it, but we considered the meal a success and enjoyed reciting some of the things that would be said in a typical Passover.
The Saturday before Easter we went to the community egg hunt. It was deceivingly cold and we were not prepared. So I wasn't sad when the hunt took less than two minutes so we could skedaddle back home.
Easter Sunday was a little different this year because of sick kids. We still had our Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt in the morning and the kids did a really good job of listening to each scripture before racing off for the next clue. I stayed home with Mariah and Vivi and we were able to get some rest. That afternoon we watched Rob Gardner's Oratorio The Lamb of God on BYUtv and it was the perfect way to celebrate Easter. It is so beautiful and touching and everyone should watch it. And you can! It's on the BYUtv app (which is free).
Eliza was so overwhelmed with the beauty of it all that she needed a nap.
We had a delicious Easter dinner which would have been even better with friends or family, but we figured no one else would want to risk the sickness we were dealing with.
We're still recovering from our illnesses and because of that, I've gotten some pretty sweet pictures:
I mean, come on!
Austin decided to see what it would feel like to have a bead in his ear so we got to visit dad and we were all very grateful when he was able to get it out.
I am so grateful that we are able to remember the miracle that occurred so long ago. Because Jesus lives, we can live again too.
